DROP EVERYTHING AND READ
This is a nationwide program in the U.S.A. in honor of Ms. Beverly Clearly to celebrate her timeless stories and the joy of reading.
In order to promote the culture of reading in ULC, the English Department had implemented this program in school year 2017. The goal of this program is to prompt the students to make reading a regular part of their routine.
This schoolwide program is spearheaded by the EAL Department and the English Department. DEAR schedule is allocated to each grade level.
For our EAL students, Tuesday is D.E.A.R. Day. Teachers and students alike spend a 20-minute reading during their EAL class. Students are encouraged to read a book of their own interest. After each DEAR time, students will reflect on their reading and will fill-up their class reading log.
At the start of each semester, students attend a book speed-dating activity in the library which is organized by our ULC Librarian. In this event, students can select a book of their own choice which come from an array of different genres.
As this Program is on its third year now, we hope to sustain our D.E.A.R. initiative in the years to come.
