What we do?
We are committed to changes at ULink College with regards to our attitudes and actions towards sustainability.

In the past, the school Eco Club have been doing a research on plastic bags used in ULC, and the leader spoke about the results during a Ulink talk. In the previous year, the Eco Club put recycle bins in each classroom for collecting used papers, such as worksheets. The group have also participated in the China Sustainable Innovation Project competition. As of 2021, we are aiming to work towards applying for Eco-school status and we are developing projects to support this.

In 2021, ULink College is establishing a student-led Eco Committee that is geared towards organising initiatives linked to sustainability. Through the priorities established by the school Eco Club, we will look to developing action projects and establishing support for whole-school environmental initiatives.

Additionally, in some homerooms and PSHE lessons, student-led initiatives have emerged, to take an interest in, and learn about, the environment and natural resources. For example, in 11A's homeroom, the teacher facilitated a long-term gardening project which helped to build up students' perseverance, capacity for care and empathy, science knowledge and commitment to a project. Students needed to prepare a pot, seeds and earth and make use of simple gardening tools. As students learn to love and engage with the environment, they develop an awareness and desire to care for, preserve and protect Mother Earth. Through this program, it is expected that students participate in long-term practices linked to social services, skills improvement, physical activity, and outdoor exploration. This helps students to improve their self-awareness and self-confidence, and to grow into more fully developed learners, which is our expectation for future ULinkers!

"At first, I wasn't interested in growing plants, I just thought it was a daily pastime during times of boredom. I chose chili peppers as my vegetable, and at first I ignored them, and sometimes even forgot to water them and let them soak up in the sun. But the next day, I happened to pass the area where we planted the plants, I saw that my seedlings have grown very high, the leaves were green and gave people a kind of springtime vibrant feeling…planting plants and watering them became a part of my daily life. They grow and flower in the process…(now), even to the examination season I bring a sense of solidity and positive energy." (Stella, G12)
